It’s
Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA! is a meme
hosted by Jen and Kellee at Teach.Mentor.Texts
Another great week of reading!
Here are some of my
favorites, this week:
Really
simple, really cute. Bear notices changes around him in nature. Leaves has few
words, with a lot of meaning. Perfect
for Pre-K to 1st Grade.

On a
suggestion from Marie at Once Upon a Story (see her post about Maisy HERE) , I read a few Maisy books by Lucy Cousins with my Lil Guy. She was right, these books are perfect for
preschoolers. I love how the graphic
illustrations are great helpers for
retelling. We read about Maisy’s visit
to the museum and her trip to the city.
We’ll get more next visit to the library! 4 stars each on goodreads
Blackout was
a Caldecott Honor winner from last year.
This was my first time reading the book.
I enjoyed the story, illustrations, and theme. I especially liked the style with graphic panels and
dramatic spreads featured throughout the book.
5 stars on goodreads
I also read and enjoyed:
A Is for Musk Ox
by Erin
Cabatingan

Fortune Cookies
by Albert Bitterman
All the Awake Animals Are Almost Asleep
by Crescent Dragonwagon

In other book related news, I am busy making my three year old Lil Guy's Halloween costume. It's a favorite picture book character. I've mentioned this book on the blog and on twitter. I will give you a few clues ... (leave me a message in the comments if you can guess which character I am making!) The picture book character always talks with a fun voice when we read it at our house. His personality is quite magnetic. His best friend is a BOY. Hoping the costume comes together before storytime tomorrow. : )
I've heard so many good things about Blackout but haven't had a chance to read it yet. Will try to find it in our libraries. The "Leaves" picture book seems just about perfect for the season. :) For the Halloween Costume, I'd hazard a guess and say that it's Boy + Bot? Haha. I haven't read the book yet but I've seen it reviewed so many times I feel like I know it already. :)
ReplyDeleteBlackout sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI bet your Lil Guy is BOT! :) What fun!
ReplyDeleteA great list of picture books, many of which are "new" titles to me. When our girls were little, we indeed loved Maisy, too. Have a fun Halloween week.

I bet it's BOT! Right?
ReplyDeleteAlways such great picture books here. I need to take some time to read more picture books.
My kids are past picture books but once in a while I still read them their favorites. These all look wonderful. Blackout caught my eye.
ReplyDeleteLaura and Tara- Blackout is a really great book. It basically deals with a blackout in the city, but has some wonderful moments of family bonding. Blackout is the kind of book that shouldn't be missed!
ReplyDeleteAnd Myra, Lorna, and Maria guessed correctly, Lil Guy is going to be BOT for Halloween. Trick-or-Treat has already been cancelled, so he may just be wearing around the living room on Halloween though! :)
ReplyDeleteBe sure and take a picture of your BOT and send to Ame on Twitter! She'd LOVE that!
ReplyDeleteWe love Maisy books. When my daughter was younger we used to watch Maisy on tv as well. Oh those voices... :)
I think it's Bot too. How cute. My 3 year old granddaughter is a pteranodon-flying everywhere! Thanks for all the books. It takes me a long time to comment because I'm always pausing to add more books to the list! I love especially the look of All The Awake Animal Ar Almost Asleep. So sweet looking.
ReplyDeleteA is for Musk Ox sounds intriguing. And the cover tells me it's fun.
ReplyDeleteLinda, All the Awake Animals Are Almost Asleep was quite subdued and lovely. I bet you would enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteJo, A is for Musk Ox was HILARIOUS! :)
ReplyDeleteSherry, I know! The little BOT costume is coming along. The 'head' is done and so cute. I can't keep it off my Lil Guy! :)
