It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (7)

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!  is a meme hosted by Jen and Kellee at Teach.Mentor.Texts.

This week’s favorite re-reads were:
Goodnight Dog by Ed Heck
Baby Giggles by Rachel Hale
Moo Baa, La La La by Sandra Boynton.
Lil Guy chose this trio of books to read for bedtime one night this week and gave us the treat of reading the books to us.  I know that he is past the board book stage.  Shhhh!  Don’t tell him, he loves bringing out the easy repeating/rhyming books and ‘reading’ them to us.  He plays library sometimes with his stuffed animals, action figures, or cars and arranges them in a semi circle to read to them.  I love that at age 3, Lil Guy already knows that reading can be a shared experience!

This week was a light week for reading.  I am still maintaining my goal of reading at least one MG or YA book a week.  I was looking at my goodreads goal of reading 300 books this year.  I have read 212 books!  That’s 23 books behind schedule.  I do count all picture books, children’s books, MG and YA books as well, but not rereads.  I will  have to set aside some time for books soon.  (Yay!  Another excuse to read more!)  Here are the books I read this week:

The Prairie Thief
by Melissa Wiley

Monty and Milli
by Tracey Corderoy (author)
Tim Warner (illustrator)

Don't Be Afraid, Little Pip
by Karma Wilson (author)
Jane Chapman (illustrator)

Bear Has a Story to Tell
by Philip C. Stead
and Erin E. Stead

Pumpkin Jack
by Will Hubbell

Flabbersmashed About You
by Rachel Vail (author)
Yumi Heo (illustrator)

I also highlighted 3 Halloween Books including Creepy Carrots, Hallo-wiener, and Pumpkin Heads.  I loved Creepy Carrots and recommend it for a read aloud, not just for Halloween, but for year round reading.  Check the post HERE.

I reviewed Little Bird by Germano Zullo and Albertine.  This nearly wordless picture book is a French award winner.  It tugged at my heartstrings and was enjoyed by my 3 yr old Lil Guy too!  Check for my review HERE

Finally, don’t miss my Blogiversary Giveaway!   Just leave a comment and mention one of my favorite books listed for a chance to win a new copy of that book.  Entries will be accepted until the end of the day TODAY October 15, 2012. 1. I'm looking forward to your review of The Prairie Thief! I too adore Little Bird and Bear Has a Story to Tell. I think I can still recite Moo, Baa, La La La by heart due to so many re-reads of that gem with my now not-so-little ones. :) And congrats on your 100 Post/Blogiversary!

  2. I just saw Flabbersmashed on my library's shelf and passed it by this week. I'll have to check out your review to see if it's worth picking up next time.

I like the cover of Prairie Thief, too. Maybe another one to add to the list after I check out your review :)

  5. I always see Sandra Boynton whenever I pass by the bookstore. Moo Baa La La La sounds like an enjoyable read! Light reads are always nice. I work graveyard shift, and asleep most of the day; sometimes I sleep the entire day when it's my day off! So it's hard to make time to read. That's why picture books are piled up on my bed so I can just easily grab one and read myself to sleep. I'm hoping that the local library has a copy of Bear Has a Story to Tell and Flabbermashed About You. Both sound really interesting. Creepy Carrots looks like a fun read, and I already got my eye on Little Bird as soon as I saw the cover! Really good titles this week!

  8. Lorna, I enjoyed Prairie Thief and I think children will too! I just have to schedule that review for this week. As for Moo, Baa, Lalala - We all have it memorized at our house too. I also have a Nook App for Moo Baa Lalala which is really funny! Boynton is a favorite of mine, I love her new books which offer toddler/preschool level lessons on being yourself and expressing your emotions. They are very good!
