Review: Feeding the Sheep

Feeding the Sheep is a simple book that takes readers on a journey from feeding sheep to the end process of creating a wool sweater.  What’s cool and amazing about this book is that each page really does provide a real life step in the sheep farming, all in about 20 simple words.  I learned from this book.  I think toddlers will not only learn from this book but sense the playfulness of the characters (through illustrations and words), as well as the handicraft and pride in the handcrafting.  I should point out that the book also takes readers on a year long  journey with a mother and daughter, a dog and a cat, and a heard of sheep.  I could see this book being used in a classroom to introduce early ‘to market’ economics concepts, or as a great read aloud with a different twist to farming or the seasons.  It’s worth a read for sure.

Feeding the Sheep was written by Leda Schubert and illustrated by Andrea U'Ren.
