It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? (4)

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!  is a meme hosted by Jen and Kellee at Teach.Mentor.Texts.

Welcome Fall.  This week Lil Guy and I have been busy reading and I am happy to be back to posting a weekly update with It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?  Besides reading this week we also had a few educational field trips going to 2 different planetariums.  (Yes, I am lucky enough to have 2 different planetariums in a short distance) along with a couple different story times and nature park programs.  It seems this week everyone is getting ready for fall and APPLES are a popular choice for book read alouds.  Besides story times and field trips, we’ve also read some great books this week, including some Fall and Halloween themed books.

First, I should mention that my favorite re-read of the week was:
Boy + Bot.
by Ame Dyckman - Lil Guy still loves and requests this book often.  He has all of the pages memorized and his Bot voice is just so cute.

Also this week I started (finally) :

The Plant Hunters: True Stories of Their Daring Adventures to the Far Corners of the Earth
by Anita Silvey  - So far, really lovely and draws you into a surprising tale of adventure.  I’ve seen this one reviewed often and I am so far very pleased!

The Humming Room
by Ellen Potter – I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get into this book.  I didn’t honestly know it was based on The Secret Garden, but 50 pages into the book and I can hardly wait to read about (main character) Roo’s adventure.

This week I also read some books with Lil Guy, including:

Boo, Bunny!
by Kathryn O. Galbraith
Review coming soon

The Hallo-wiener
by Dav Pilkey
Review coming soon

Cindy Moo
by Lori Mortensen
Review coming soon

Boss Baby
by Marla Frazee
5 stars on goodreads

You Are Stardust
by Elin Kelsey

Also this week I posted 2 reviews:

Minette’s Feast: The Delicious Story of Julia Child and Her Cat
by Susanna Reich
A picture book introduction (by way of cat) to chef and cook book author Julia Child. Reviewed here.

Who’s Who
by Ken Geist
A twin themed picture book of animals.

This week I hope to finish The Humming Room and maybe
find one more YA or MG book to read.  Any suggestions?

Make sure you leave me a message in the
comments and share what you are reading too.
I always love suggestions!  And, If you have a list,
I will be sure to visit to see what you've included.

  1. I came to your blog through Teach Mentor Texts. I love that you share what you're reading to your own child. I would've loved to have kept track of that when my girls were little. Now they're 19 and 16 - still big readers! Thanks for sharing your books.

    1. These days most of my reading has been on the pre-school level! I do enjoy keeping the log of books we read together, but still aim to get back to more professional reading and YA books too.

  2. Such lovely picture books you have here. You Are Stardust caught my eye. I've been seeing Minette's feast a lot and I'm really intrigued by it. I hope to find a copy of this one soon. Boy + Bot also looks like an enjoyable read! Glorious spread here. :)

    1. You Are Stardust was SUCH a unique book. The illustrations were so different and the text was a beautiful mix of scientific and philosophical ideas.

  3. Lots of great reading this week, with many of your titles on my TBR. Boss Baby and Boy+Bot are favorites at our house, too. I'll have to pop over and see what you thought of Minette's Feast; I liked it! Have you read the more graphic biography on Julia---Bon Appetit? I personally, liked it, but found the format a bit cluttered to the point that younger readers might be bogged down by it.

    1. My son was totally cracking up reading Boss Baby. He was pointing at Boss Baby's silly faces and laughing a ton. I predict that the book will soon become a favorite at our house too!

AND ... I will totally have to check out Julia's graphic biography. :)

  4. I think we just got Boy + Bot in our school library so I'll be sure to look it up, & I need to read Minette's Feast too. It sounds very good. Lots of cat stories around lately! And The Plant Hunters sounds great. I know about The Humming room, so will try to get to it-it does sound delightful. I'm not sure what you want for a middle grade book, but I liked Angleberger's Fake Mustache-really different adventure. An older middle grade favorite is Search for Delicious by Natalie Babbit-very fun. Thanks for all you shared!

    1. All the books you mentioned are GREAT books. You won't be disappointed when you check them out. :)

I've already read Fake Moutache and enjoyed it quite a bit. Search for Delicious sounds good, I will have to add it to my To Be Read list.

  6. Boy + Bot is such a treasure. I have bought it a few times and keep gifting it. I need my own copy for my classroom. Thank you for this little sneak peek into the Humming Room. I had brought it home form the library and didn't read it. Now, I will look for it again. MG suggestions? Have you read Kepler's Dream or Lions of Little Rock. Both books I really enjoyed this summer.

    1. Yes - Boy + Bot rocks!!!!

I have Lions of Little Rock and haven't read it yet. I have heard that it has been included on some people's short lists for Newbery, so I definitely want to read it.

I'll have to check out Kepler's Dream I haven't heard about it yet.
